Belonging is something alive, constantly changing, moving, with space around and between (after all, we’re all on a tiny place in space). This installation is composed of different shapes, in which the paintings show up as individual images and parts of bigger stories. Where do I end and we begin? brings together handmade washi papers from Italy and Japan, papers in different shades, thick and thin, large and small, wavy and flat, with and without rough edges.

Like paper, belonging is something both fragile and strong, something that can be light and absorbing. I captured hugs, a crowd of stangers coming together in a rain shadow, a family walking their dog, a plant growing around a tree, a dancer feeling at home in their skin. What connects us is often invisible, bridging the odds, balancing on chance, and held by leaps of faith, hope, and, most of all, love.
