Body and soul, 2024

Ink on Awagami paper

27 x 24 cm

During my artist residency in July in Pennabilli I was invited to meet the nuns of the Augustinian monastery. Drawn to meditation and curious about the connections between mind and body I wanted to see if a spiritual mindset can be shown by portraying the body.

When painting the nuns my brushstrokes went inward, towards the person. I thought afterwards, when realising this, how the movements and interactions that I observed at the monastery were very intentional.

This residency was organised by Migrant Landscapes and financed by Culture Moves Europe
